Clinical Research Opportunities for People with Asthma

We are currently enrolling people with asthma in several clinical research studies.  The following are now available:

Adult studies

  • If you’re allergic to dust, pets, or springtime pollen, you may be able to participate in a 5-week clinical research study of an investigational antihistamine.  Participants must be at least 12 years old, have asthma, and have suffered from troublesome allergy symptoms for the past 2 years.  Only 6 brief office visits are required.  Participants receive allergy skin testing and study medications at no cost.

  • If you have asthma, you may be able to participate in a 14-week clinical research study of an investigational asthma inhaler.  Only six brief office visits are required.  Participants must be at least 12 years old and will receive breathing tests, labwork, and study medications at no cost.

  • If you have asthma and are currently using an inhaled steroid (Flovent, Pulmicort, Vanceril, Beclovent, Azmacort, Aerobid or QVAR), you may be able to participate in a 21-week clinical research study of investigational asthma treatment.  Only seven brief office visits are required.   Participants must be at least 15 years old and will receive breathing tests, labwork, and study medications at no cost.

Pediatric studies

  • If your child has asthma, and is currently 2 or 3 years old, he or she may be able to participate in an 8-week clinical research study of an investigational asthma inhaler.  Only six brief office visits are required. Children who qualify receive study medications at no cost.

  • If your child has asthma, and is currently 4 to 11 years old, he or she may be able to participate in a 4-week clinical research study of an investigational asthma inhaler.  Five office visits are required of which two last 8 hours, and one, 4 hours, and can be done on Saturdays, if desired.  Children who qualify receive study medications at no cost.

  • If your child has asthma, and is currently 4 to 11 years old, he or she may be able to participate in a 14-week clinical research study of an investigational asthma inhaler.  Only 7 brief office visits are required.  Children who qualify receive study medications at no cost.

For all of our studies, study-related medical care is provided without cost, and persons who qualify are reimbursed for their time and travel.  Participants do not need to be existing patients of Regional Allergy & Asthma.

For more information about any of these studies, please call us at 253-3382 (or 800-649-3382) and ask to speak with Kim Roberts for Pediatric Studies or Colleen Malone for Adult Studies.
